Bloomie Turns Handmade Flowers and Custom Gifts Into Personalised Creations in Malaysia
Founded by three best friends, the Empire City studio creates chenille stem flowers, customised bouquets and air-dry clay dolls inspired by customers’ ideas.

PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA — A spontaneous idea between three best friends has grown into Bloomie, a flower and customised gift business that turns colourful handmade creations into personal keepsakes.
From chenille stem bouquets to air-dry clay dolls and arrangements featuring customers’ own plushies, Bloomie’s approach centres on creating gifts that reflect the person receiving them.
From fresh flowers to handmade creations
Bloomie began with a simple plan: three close friends wanted to start a flower business together. In its early days, the brand focused mainly on fresh flowers.
When the Movement Control Order (MCO) changed how businesses operated, the team adapted by shifting towards dried flowers. That transition also encouraged them to explore other materials and styles.
Around the same period, one of the partners noticed chenille stem flowers, commonly known as pipe-cleaner flowers, gaining popularity in China. Their colourful appearance and creative possibilities caught the team’s attention.
The founders began experimenting, and the handmade flowers gradually became an important part of Bloomie’s range. Unlike fresh bouquets, these creations can be kept as decorative pieces long after an occasion has passed.

A custom flower box opens new possibilities
According to the team, a turning point came when Bloomie shared its first customised flower box online. The post went viral, bringing a wave of enquiries and orders.
The response encouraged the founders to expand their customisation services. Customers were interested in gifts with personal touches, from particular colours and themes to details meaningful to the recipient.
For Bloomie, that meant looking beyond conventional bouquets and finding ways to bring different ideas to life.

Flowers, air-dry clay dolls and something unexpected
Today, customers can approach Bloomie with a concept, occasion or recipient in mind.
Alongside handmade floral arrangements, the team creates customised air-dry clay dolls, also called Airclay dolls. It has also received requests for more unusual designs, including handmade decorative swords.
Customers who already own a special plushie or doll can send it to the team to incorporate into a bouquet or gift arrangement. A familiar, sentimental item can become the centrepiece of a new creation for a birthday, anniversary, graduation or other celebration.

Working with different budgets
Bloomie also invites customers to share their preferred budget when discussing an order.
Rather than choosing only from fixed packages, customers can explain what they have in mind and let the team explore a suitable design within that range.
The approach gives customers room to discuss their priorities, whether they want a small handmade gesture or a more elaborate arrangement.

Meeting customers at pop-up markets
Beyond online orders, Bloomie occasionally takes part in pop-up markets and events.
These gatherings give customers a chance to see the colours, textures and details of its handmade work in person. They also allow the founders to introduce their creations, discuss ideas and connect directly with new customers.
