A little about us

Good stories deserve
to be told.

Real people. Real stories. Betul betul good.

Betul Betul is a Malaysian storytelling platform for real people, local businesses and the everyday good around us. We bring attention to the people behind the places we visit, the food we enjoy and the communities we call home.

A neighbourhood stall can hold years of family history. A small business can begin with a practical need and grow through patience, setbacks and support. We believe those stories deserve space, whether the person at their centre is widely known or just getting started.

The people behind the story

It is easy to notice a finished product, a busy shop or a plate of good food. What is less visible is the work that made it possible: the early attempts, the difficult decisions and the people who kept showing up.

That is where our curiosity begins. We want to help readers understand how someone started, what they learned along the way and what keeps them going. A good story leaves you knowing more than a business name—it helps you see the person behind it.

What you’ll find on Betul Betul

Our focus is on Malaysian people, local businesses, food, places and community life. We are interested in small beginnings, thoughtful work and the connections that make a neighbourhood feel like home.

  • People and their journeys. The experiences, challenges and ambitions behind the work people do.
  • Local businesses. The founders, families and teams building something of their own.
  • Food and places. The stories behind a familiar dish, a neighbourhood stop or somewhere new to discover.
  • Community and everyday good. The efforts that bring people together and make a difference close to home.

Our Sister Chicken Wings feature, for example, looks beyond the grill to the two sisters, their working partnership and the years spent developing their business.

Why everyday good matters

Good does not have to mean grand or perfect. It can be care put into a recipe, a skill learned over time, a welcome offered to a customer or the determination to try again after a difficult period.

We want Betul Betul to be a place where readers can discover something nearby, appreciate the effort behind it and share that discovery with someone else. Reading a story might lead to a conversation, a visit or a little more understanding of the people around us.
